The U-shape of the perimeter created a boxed-in footprint that made it impossible for more than one person to work in the kitchen at a time without conflict.

Revising the layout by removing the peninsula and adding in an island allows the homeowners to have the kids at the counter for breakfast while Mom and Dad prep school lunches and make morning coffees all without any traffic jams. The layered neutral palette lightens the space, adds texture and interest all while remaining classic.
