Originally a restrictive U-shaped footprint of retro pine cabinetry secluded from the rest of the home, this kitchen needed a serious intervention. This home sits close to the water's edge of the Stuart Channel in Chemainus BC and in its original state anyone in the kitchen never even got a peek. The homeowners knew the walls had to come down but not how to take advantage of the new open plan.
Enter EF Interiors. With a fresh, wide open space to work with, EF went to work maximizing the new footprint incorporating pantry storage, a beautiful long island with integrated seating and an expansive run along either side of the new range location to make dinner prep a breeze.
"Our goal with this project was to connect the kitchen with the rest of the space and take advantage of their floor-to-ceiling windows with panoramic views of Stuart Channel. By removing a wall and the back entrance to the kitchen, we created a wall of floor-to-ceiling millwork to maximize storage, with a large island and plenty of countertop space along the range wall. This opened up the kitchen to the living and dining spaces, taking advantage of the sweeping views and allowing the family to connect. "

The beauty of the view now pairs with the kitchen's refined take on contrast. Keeping the palette deep and rich, EF plays the richness of Matte in Soot against Coastal's Lodge for a depth that is balanced by the crispness the stark white of the counters and tiled backsplash bring to the colour story.
